Grandpa’s Magic Tortilla

(University of New Mexico Press) Written in both Spanish and English, this book tells the tale of three children visiting their grandparents in the New Mexico village of Chimayo. When their grandfather leaves a tortilla on the stove too long, it burns. But this burnt tortilla becomes magical, changing into a variety of different animal shapes. The story is a celebration of both family and the imagination. Martínez is a poet, author, journalist, and activist.
