This guidebook is a collaboration between Place and young Ixil professionals in northwestern Guatemala. It invites travelers to visit not only the magnificent cloud forests, waterfalls, and rich biodiversity of the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes, but also the local markets, sacred caves, and even newly bulldozed highways. Place suggests many ways that visitors can contribute to sustainable future development within the Ixil region. The book includes photographs and hand-drawn maps. Place has worked with the U.S. Peace Corps, the World Bank, and other nonprofit organizations. She has traveled to the Ixil region of Guatemala every year since 2004.
