(Oxford University Press) In this book, Landes analyzes apocalyptic movements throughout history, including the Mayan calendar, the global Jihad, Nazism, and warnings of global warming. In looking at millennialism from ancient history until the present day, the book suggests that millennial thinking is sacred as well as secular, and has had a significant influence on modern thought. Landes is an associate professor of history at Boston University.
