(Beaver’s Pond Press) In this memoir Brian Lucas chronicles his wife’s battle with late-stage leukemia. Diagnosed at the age of 34, with two young daughters, Betsy underwent chemo, radiation, and a bone-marrow transplant. Lucas’ writing gives an insider’s look at the reality of fighting the disease and tells how it was ultimately love — love for each other and their daughters, and from those around them — that kept him and his wife going. Lucas is senior director of communications for the Academic Health Center at the University of Minnesota. He also is chair of the board of the Minnesota Chapter of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
