The Honorable Way (Story Scribe Books) is a humorous and insightful coming-of-age story. Mackey writes thoughtfully about his time aboard the USS Chevalier in 1963 after his graduation from Princeton and the Naval Officer Candidate School. This is Mackey’s attempt to distill meaning, old and new, from his journey. Mackey draws upon old journal entries and recollections of the people and places he saw to craft a heartfelt memoir on what it was like to live out at sea as a young man during the beginning of the Vietnam War.
