The children’s picture book Hope and Fortune (Black Rose Writing) tells the story of Esperanza and the multicultural and multigenerational fairies who help her find her way. Each fairy represents a specific idea. As a nod to Princeton, the fairy of Wisdom and Intelligence wears orange and black and carries a book with the school’s shield logo. Bañez’s goal with this book is to instill positive messages of empowerment and the value of self-discovery in children. The modern-day fairytale uses vivid imagery to enchant readers while also offering them the tools to navigate and overcome challenges.
