This book explores the process of ethnic identity change in a broad historical context. More specifically, Green argues that the economic shift from land to labor impacts the ways groups identify, and ultimately demonstrates the ways in which industrialization has resulted in more ethnically homogenous societies. Using large-scale datasets and detailed case studies from the mid-20th century, Industrialization and Assimilation (Cambridge University Press) ultimately traces examples of assimilation by groups over time.
