Islamic Feminism in Kuwait: The Politics and Paradoxes

Published Jan. 21, 2016

(Palgrave Macmillan) This book looks at the questions surrounding women’s issues in Islamic states as they struggle to modernize. It focuses on the cultural elites in the oil-rich Kuwait, where the modern suffrage movement gave women political rights in 2005. Feminism in Kuwait was born out of a traditional and cultural conservative climate, which Gonzalez argues gives Islamic Feminists there an edge. González is a post-doctoral research associate in the James Madison Program at Princeton University.
