Franz Kafka was born in Prague in 1883, when it was under the control of the Habsburg Empire. During his lifetime, Prague became part of the newly formed Czechoslovakia. Kafka’s Other Prague (Northwestern University Press) analyzes how Kafka’s interaction with Czech culture changed his perception of the world and his writing.
