The Last House Before the Sea

In The Last House Before the Sea (Restless Books), author and journalist Gabi Martínez reflects on the year he spent living on the rural island of Buda. He writes in great detail about the coastal marshes, flocks of seabirds, and other natural scenes, as well as the lives of some of the residents he embedded with during his stay. This picturesque island is unfortunately experiencing the effects of climate change. Martínez also intertwines his own personal reflections into the story — from turning 50 on the island to navigating his aging father’s health.
