In Liberal Opinions (Quid Pro Books), Bill Norris ’51 tells of a storied life that began far removed from the places that would later shape his life: in Turtle Creek, Pa. After attending Princeton under the G.I. Bill, he went to Stanford Law School. From there, he moved on to a long and illustrious career that culminated with him becoming a judge on Los Angeles’ Ninth Circuit of the Federal Court of Appeals and co-founder of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. From the judge’s bench, he fought against discrimination, issuing decisions with implications for the eventual repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and the establishment of marriage equality.
