Set in Pittsburgh in 1916-1919, Magda, Standing (Bold Story Press, June 2023) follows the story of 16-year-old Magda and the complicated experience she faces trying to care for her mother and brother, after being taken out of high school by her father. Witnessing the hostility her German immigrant family faces, Magda seeks to pursue an education despite her family obligations. However, not only The Great War stands in Magda’s way — the Spanish flu outbreak further hinders her journey.
