Emmet Gowin, professor emeritus of the visual arts, has photographed more than 1,000 species of nocturnal moths in Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, French Guiana, and Panama. Mariposas Nocturnas (Princeton University Press) is the result, a book filled with color photographs including some moths that have never been photographed as living specimens before. Gowin’s introduction informs readers of another purpose: to raise awareness and concern for the beautiful biodiversity that is disappearing in Central and South America.
