In May We Waken One by One, Daniel C. Bryant ’61 tells the story of Beth Barton, who meets and marries sculptor Malik Ndour during her year abroad without her parents’ knowledge. The couple’s arrival at her home in Maine throws the parents’ marriage and the newlyweds’ relationship into turmoil. Mounting domestic and racial tensions lead Malik to grow increasingly estranged from the family and fall prey to a jihad recruiter.
