Medieval Italy: Texts in Translation

(University of Pennsylvania Press) In this volume, the editors have gathered a selection of newly translated primary sources from the central and later Middle Ages, when Italy was famous for a diverse cultural landscape of urban towers and fortified castles, the spirituality of Saints Francis and Clare, and the poetry of Dante, Petrarch, and Boccaccio. Ethnically and religiously diverse, this collection of texts includes Hebrew, Arabic, Greek, and Lombard sources. Katherine L. Jansen is an associate professor of history at The Catholic University of America. Joanna Drell is an associate professor of history at the University of Richmond. Frances Andrews is a reader in medieval history at the University of St. Andrews.
