Memoirs from the Asylum
(All Things That Matter Press) This tragicomedic novel explores the inside of the asylum, and three main characters: a fearful narrator, a damaged psychiatrist, and the catatonic schizophrenic. Their interwoven stories, told in a diary/documentary format, include love, violence, death, and circuses. As the novel comes to a conclusion, the reader learns much about the themes of futility, frustration, and freedom. Weene has been a professor, public school teacher, psychologist, and poet.
