Mirror Boy
Set in the 1980s, Mirror Boy (Seishin Books) tells the story of Jason, a Long Island teen who feels lost. Since his parents divorced, Jason has been in search of a father figure — someone opposite of the unsavory men who come in and out of his unstable mother’s life. Jason develops an obsessive compulsion with his appearance and begins doing “mirror time” to channel his emotions and conjure a male role model. Jason eventually finds a mentor in his dermatologist, Dr. Milton Greenblatt, but the relationship takes a surprising turn.
