(University of Massachusetts Press) This book chronicles the life of Princeton alum Peter Gulick (class of 1825), and his wife, Fanny, and their missionary work in Hawai‘i. Putney documents their lives, while providing a balanced look at their missionary work, exploring both the positive and negative consequences of their involvement with the island, its culture, and its people. Putney is assistant professor of history at Bentley University.
