Mister Satan’s Apprentice: A Blues Memoir

(University of Minnesota Press) This book is the history of the musical collaboration between Adam Gussow, a young graduate school dropout and harmonica player, and Sterling “Mr. Satan” Magee, a guitarist and underground blues legend. Gussow, who continues to tour with Magee today, is an associate professor of English and Southern studies at the University of Mississippi. He is the author of Seems Like Murder Here: Southern Violence and the Blues Tradition and Journeyman’s Road: Modern Blues Lives from Faulkner’s Mississippi to Post-9/11 New York.
