My Date with Neanderthal Woman

(Dzanc Books) This collection of short stories won Dzanc Books’ first short-story collection prize. The title piece is about a man who, growing tired of “modern women,” takes a Neanderthal woman who lives in a cave out on a date. It won an online humor contest and was published in the Norton anthology Flash Fiction Forward. Galef is an English professor and director of the creative writing program at Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J.
