Myths about Suicide

(Harvard University Press) The author investigates accepted myths about suicide and provides personal and professional advice on suicide prevention. He argues that suicide is partly genetic and influenced by mental disorders, and addresses numerous related subjects including the mythology of suicide notes, suicide bombers, and suicide “hot spots” like the Golden Gate Bridge. Combining media reports, clinical cases, scientific studies, and literary works, this book attempts to provide a fresh and optimistic approach to combating suicide. Joiner is Distinguished Research Professor and Bright-Burton Professor of Psychology at Florida State University. He is the author of Why People Die By Suicide .
