No Man’s Land: Globalization, Territory, and Clandestine Groups in Southeast Asia

(Cornell University Press) Hastings examines the three clandestine organizations in Southeast Asia: the terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah, the insurgent Free Aceh Movement, and organized criminals in the form of smugglers and maritime pirates. He explores the logistic networks, command and control structures, and training programs of these organizations, comparing these groups to similar ones in different regions of the world. Hastings is an assistant professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
