Northanger Abbey: An Annotated Edition

Published Jan. 21, 2016

Jane Austen’s first novel, Northanger Abbey, with its intrepid 17-year-old heroine and gothic adventures, was relatively underappreciated until the 20th century. Susan J. Wolfson’s introduction and annotations in this edition bring new insight into what makes this classic Austen novel so distinctive. Wolfson is a professor of English at Princeton.
