The Old Whitaker Place
(Miami University Press) In this novel, Tom Whitaker is in the last years of his life. Living alone in Vermont, he struggles with blizzards, his only child, and his infirmities. His advancing age makes it difficult to live on his own, but he fights to stay on the land he loves so much. Luckily, a young woman named Teresa who comes into his life might be able to help him. Chambers taught at the University of Michigan Law School and is now a writer. The Old Whitaker Place is the co-winner of the 2009 Miami University Press novella contest.
