Wealthy San Franciscan Fred Klein accidentally kills a young woman the same day he learns he has high cholesterol. The 75-year-old flees the scene but is caught, and then has a catastrophic health event of his own. Philanthropist, a first novel by longtime physician and Peace Corps worker Larry Hill '63, combines tragedy, suspense, and comedy in its examination of the legal and medical establishments of the City by the Bay.
