Retrofitting Suburbia: Urban Solutions for Redesigning Suburbs

(John Wiley & Sons)  For architects, planners, urban designers, and developers, this book illustrates how existing suburban developments can be redesigned and redeveloped into more urban and more sustainable places. The authors show how development in existing suburbs can absorb new growth and evolve in relation to changed demographic, economic, and regional conditions.  The authors argue that the best suburban retrofits transform their neighborhoods, increasing connectivity and walkability while contributing to affordability, transit, and sustainability. Dunham-Jones is an associate professor and director of the architecture program at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
