(Research Institute for Mathematics) This book on Saunders MacLane, an American mathematician of the 20th century who cofounded category theory, is a review of MacLane’s range of conceptual ideas against their connections with the range of concepts in Pogorzelski’s Transtheoretic Foundations of Mathematics. Pogorzelski has been a professor of mathematics at the University of Maine for over 35 years. He is the director of the Research Institute for Mathematics, the only institution in Maine that grants doctoral degrees in mathematics.
