Richardson re-centers the study of migrating peoples in Roma in the Medieval Islamic World (Bloomsbury Publishing), which investigates the literary, technological, and artistic cultures of the Ghuraba' peoples between the eighth and 16th centuries. A historically marginalized ethnic group, the Ghuraba' — pejoratively known as “Gypsies” in English-speaking regions — were a remarkable civilization that was likely responsible for the first movement of printing technology from East Asia to Europe.
