Rough Justice: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer
(Portfolio) In Rough Justice , the author explores the many sides of former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer ’81: well-intentioned do-gooder, aggressive lawyer, hardball politician, dutiful son, loving husband and father, and secretive “Client 9” of the Emperor’s Club Escort Service. Based on interviews with Spitzer’s family, friends, and aides, as well as targets of his high-profile investigations and central players in the prostitution ring that brought him down, the book is also informed by the many hours the author spent interviewing Spitzer himself. Elkind is an editor at large for Fortune magazine. He researched Rough Justice in collaboration with Academy Award-winning director Alex Gibney.
