(Peter Lang Publishing) In this collection of essays, the author addresses the theme of sanctuaries of light in 19th-century European literature. He focuses particularly on William Wordsworth, E.T.A. Hoffmann, Joseph von Eichendorff, and Charlotte Brontë, exploring sanctuaries of light, natural beauty, and serenity that offer comfort, nurturance, and creative expression to the individual. Walter is a professor of English and Humanities at Berkeley College in New York. He is the author of The Apostrophic Moment in Nineteenth and Twentieth Century German Lyric Poetry and Space and Time on the Magic Mountain: Studies in Nineteenth- and Early- Twentieth-Century European Literature .
