Sanctuaries in Washington Irving’s The Sketch Book

Walter’s book is a collection of essays exploring the theme of sanctuaries in The Sketch Book. This volume, part of the Studies on Themes and Motifs in Literature series, also provides a short history of sanctuaries in 19th-century American and European literature.
