Through original research and data collected by Fisher over a period of 25 years, Saving Ourselves (Columbia University Press) offers a new way of framing realistic action for the climate crisis. Decades of insufficient government legislation over climate change has made many believe that there is no hope to achieve large-scale, systemic change with the climate crisis. Fisher considers activism from a new angle, questioning when and how it can be most useful. She emphasizes the importance of social movements and community involvement to effectively react to “shocking moments” and pave the way forward for transformative and lasting climate resilience. Saving Ourselves is at once an inspiring and hopeful novel.
