Sci-Fi, Magick, Queer L.A.: Sexual Science and the Imagi-Nation
This book, which includes seven original essays, unpacks the impact of science fiction and occult communities on the LGBTQ+ movement. By focusing on Los Angeles from the late 1930s through the 1960s, Sci-Fi, Magick, Queer L.A. (Inventory Press/One Archive) highlights the intersection of these movements while also laying out how they paved the way for liberation movements in the eras to come. The book includes reflections from Joseph Hawkins, Joan Lubin, Ben Miller, and others, who cover a variety of pivotal moments in films, photography, progressive groups, and more to dissect how they ultimately helped to create positive visuals of queerness which greatly benefited queer culture and history.
