Soviet Factography
In this new book, Devin Fore, a professor of German, explores Soviet culture by examining works of photography, film, literature, and journalism during the avant-garde movement of the 1920s called factography. Soviet Factography (University of Chicago Press) considers the rise of this style of media alongside other technologies of the time including radio broadcasting and sound in films, which contributed to the overall transformation of the medium. Using material from Moscow archives, Fore offers a detailed analysis of the practice of factography into the Cultural Revolution, uncovering the ideas which informed this utopian period.
