This true story uncovers Lighte’s harrowing journey to adopt his two daughters from Hong Kong, China. A gay Jewish scholar of China, Lighte found himself caught in the crosshairs of the very history he has studied and culture he had been immersed in. He was first dispatched to Beijing in 1982 to begin what turned out to be a successful career in banking, working his way to become the founding chairman of J.P. Morgan Chase Bank of China. This book is about his and his partner’s personal struggles to start a family and become fathers. Straight Through the Labyrinth (Acausal Press) is a story of family, love, and perseverance that highlights the daunting bureaucracy and unforeseen drama Lighte encountered while trying to adopt his two daughters.
