From the eve of World War I to the stock market crash of 1929, the thrift movement called on Americans to embrace a culture of stewardship and investment as a way of addressing social problems like rampant poverty and increasing debt. Thrift: The History of an American Cultural Movement examines this movement through the lens of the current economic troubles in America.
