Critical thinking has long been accepted as a marker of intellectual sophistication, but a group of political theorists, sociologists, philosophers, and other scholars suggest revamping the practice, starting with the principle of self-critique. A Time for Critique: Memoirs of Gender and Identity (Columbia University Press), edited by Didier Fassin and Bernard E. Harcourt ’84, addresses pivotal questions and draws upon the works of Arendt, Foucault, Du Bois, and others to theoretically reassess the practice of critique.
