Before he had even begun his undergraduate studies at Princeton, Ernest Stock ’49 had already escaped violent anti-Semitism in Nazi Germany and served in the U.S. Army. After earning a Ph.D. from Columbia, he made his way to Israel. This memoir was sparked by an essay he wrote for PAW in 2008 about Kristallnacht. Formerly the executive director of the European Council of Jewish Communities, Stock lives in retirement near Tel Aviv. His other books include Israel on the Road to Sinai and Partners and Pursestrings.
