Unchanged Trebles
In Unchanged Trebles (Rutgers University Press), Peeples explores the world of contemporary boy choirs. Pulling from her own experience as the mother of a boy soprano singer as well as interviews with choir directors and former choristers, she draws parallels between the tradition which creates community for boys around an activity that some view as effeminate or emasculating. Peeples highlights the positive benefits of boys’ choirs, including teaching boys to express emotion and expand their views of masculinity, which she argues are truly transformative lessons for boys.
