Suzy Perry is an accomplished older woman who married into a new family in Westchester County, N.Y. Her new husband is smitten with her, but his son and daughter-in-law are troubled by her.  Little by little, clues and tidbits of information about Suzy persuade Alex that he needs to know more about her. Alex, a journalist, hires a private detective, without informing his father. Over time, unsettling information comes to light, include that Suzy had been married to a man who died unexpectedly. As her story unravels, Suzy takes off.
