To strengthen their marriage and prepare them for parenthood, David Hlavsa ’84 and his wife, Lisa, walk the Camino de Santiago, a 400-mile pilgrimage across the north of Spain. But, as they discover, the pilgrimage doesn’t end in Santiago; it continues as they return home and face more difficult challenges: the stillbirth of their first son and Lisa’s harrowing second pregnancy. Walking Distance: Pilgrimage, Parenthood, Grief, and Home Repairs is a memoir of their journey.
