Based on his experience in the Army, Hegseth reflects on the ways he’s seen the military change since he enlisted 20 years ago. He champions the meritocracy of the military and urges the need to restore this farmework of practice. He criticizes the focus on “woke” policies and counter extremism and argues these are the roots of the problems of the U.S. military. The War on Warriors (Broadside Books) lays out Hegseth’s perspectives on the military, which will inform his new role as secretary of defense.
