In this new collection of poems, Leonard reflects on a series of things: family life, faith, growing old, and more. Waxing On (self-published) is an autobiography of sorts as it hones in on both big and small joys and sorrows from the Leonard’s varied perspectives as a son, husband, father, and grandfather. Beyond self-reflection, his writing also includes unconventional interpretations of biblical stories and Christian doctrine, as well as skewers racists and demagogues who threaten civil society. Leonard concludes by recounting a friendship that bloomed 50 years ago when he began at Princeton.
