This book of poems, broken into 55 sections, explores the modern world through recognizable figures and moments including the Beach Boys, The Jackson 5, and life on Mars to name a few. Bennett uses these many themes to channel larger conversations about the “form of the American mind,” particularly in light of the nation’s 250th anniversary. We (the People of the United States) (Penguin Books) looks at where society is now and possibilities for where we could be in the future.
