By Robert A. Burt ’60

Published Jan. 21, 2016

(Harvard University Press) Burt explores the justifications offered for the legitimacy of God’s authority in the Hebrew and Christian bibles, and the countervailing claims of human beings’ rights to challenge this authority. Through the narratives of key biblical figures, Burt paints the picture of an ambivalent, mutually dependent relationship between God and his peoples. Burt is the Alexander M. Bickel Professor of Law at Yale Law School.
