Penick explores the advent of old age — a time in which most come to be seen as “other” or no longer fully integrated into society. In Winter Light (Punctum Books) Penick challenges this notion by exploring a variety of artists, musicians, and other visionaries who changed in old age and discovered new paths, weaving themselves into modern culture and stories. Through five essays, he explores the stories of people as different as Michelangelo, Beethoven, and Jean Rhys, offering a new view of possibilities that arise in the closing chapter of our lives.
