John Ernest Sedlmayr ’38

Body

BUD SEDLMAYR, an airline captain with Eastern Airlines, from 1941 to 1976, passed away Dec 30, 1991. He was buried from All Saints Episcopal Church in Great Neck, N.Y. He had had a happy retirement until poor health recently overtook him.

Bud was a popular member of the Class, and it seems impossible that he was with us only through half of sophomore year. Having learned to fly before he came to Princeton, he then headed for the aviation business and was New York distributor for Bellanca Aircraft, before joining Eastern. He was based at N.Y.C. airports and was a longtime resident of Port Washington, L.I. Bud headed the Long island Golf Assn. from 1978 to 1979, His special interest was its caddie scholarship program, which has set up a memorial fund in his name. A loyal Princetonian, he had attended nearly all PrincetonYale football games since 1931, and some as far back as 1925.

Bud married Mary Louise Watts on Sept. 5, 1942. She remains at their home at 16 Scoot Dr., Pt. Washington, NY 11050. Their sons Christopher John and Timothy King and grandson Theodor survive. We shall miss him.
