Edward B. Heyd ’57

Body

FRITZ DIED Aug. 6, 1994, at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, N.J., after a two-year battle with cancer. At Princeton, he majored in economics, was associate football manager, and a member of Tiger Inn. His senior-year roommates were Paul Schnatz, Charlie Hauser, John West, Ed Byers, and Wolcott Gibbs. He was a lively, active member of our class.

Upon graduation, Fritz attended Univ. of Virginia Law School. He practiced law in New Jersey for 33 years, first in Jersey City and then in Ridgewood. He lived in Wyckoff, N.J.

Fritz was a member of the Ridgewood Country Club and its board of directors. He was a warden and vestryman of the Church of the Good Shepherd, a board member of the Ridgewood Y.W.C.A., and a member of the Bayview Cemetery Assn.

At Tony Abbot's wedding in 1960, Fritz met Margo Smith. They married in 1962 and had daughters Elizabeth and Margaret. A true family man, Fritz was deeply involved with his wife and children. He was proud of his affiliations with Cincinnati C.D.S., Princeton (Tiger), and the Univ. of Virginia. He loved golf and said near the end that he had reached three goals: a hole in one, attending the Masters, and parring the 18th hole at St. Andrews. John Heyd '59 gave a moving eulogy at his memorial service.

The class extends its sympathy to his widow, Margo; daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret; mother; Marcella; and brothers, John and Peter. Fritz will be missed.
