Body

Ken Beattie, or "The Beat" as he was known, died Jan. 25, 2000, at Morristown Memorial Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer. He had lived for many years in Portersville, N .J.

Ken came from a Princeton family. His father, Kenneth W. Beattie, was Class of '19, his brother Roland '43, and his younger brother, Bruce '51.

Born and raised in Summit, N.J., he graduated from Hotchkiss. Ken entered Princeton in Mar. 1946, and received his AA degree in Oct. 1948. During WWII, he was with the Army Air Corps.

With his brother Roland, he was cofounder of the Kenro Corp., which manufactured equipment for the graphic arts industry.

After he retired, Ken was active in environmental matters, serving as a board member of the Upper Raritan Watershed Assn. Ken was cochair of headquarters at the 50th reunion and was a regular at the first Friday luncheons at the Nassau Club.

Anyone who knew him felt Ken was a special person and a joy to know. He will be missed. He often said, "If I went home right now, I'd say I had a good time."

The class extends its deepest sympathy to his wife, Janet, his son, Jonathan, his daughter, Kate, and his brother, Roland '43.
