In 1985, these entrepreneurial sophomores set up the Student Telecommunications Agency, which offered students a better deal on long-distance calls from touch-tone phones. In 2015, landline phones are almost extinct in dorm rooms. Only about 30 landline phones are hooked up in rooms across campus, according to the Office of Information Technology, while there are more than 5,000 cellphone numbers for undergraduates in OIT’s database.
